6th September 2024

We are writing to let you know of the sudden death of a Cornhill Scotland student. Ernest Mulenga, 37, arrived in the UK last weekend from Zambia, to attend the introductory residential week of the Pastors Training Course. He died in his sleep on Thursday 5th September, on the penultimate day of the residential week. There had been no suggestion beforehand that he was unwell.

As well as pastoring a church, Ernest played a key role in training pastors and advancing expository preaching in Zambia. Despite having significant pastoral experience and theological qualifications, he joined the course to equip himself more thoroughly for this important task. He leaves behind his wife Annie, his daughter Mishael (7) and his twin sons, Raphael and Nathaniel (3).

The reasons for this letter are threefold. First, we wanted to provide clarification for anyone who may already have heard something about this tragic event. Secondly, we would be so glad if you would pray, especially for Ernest’s family back home in Zambia, but also for his fellow students, and for the many practical issues that will need to be undertaken in the immediate future, so that his body can be returned to his family as soon as possible. Thirdly, we intend to set up a fund to help support Annie and her family in the aftermath of this dreadful blow. If you would like to contribute to this, please follow this link:

(Please feel free to forward this link to friends and contacts of Ernest, but please DO NOT post on social media)

With warmest thanks for your partnership in the gospel.

The Cornhill Scotland Team.
