a new Bible training hub for the Highlands…
Launching September 2025
Bible teachers are the most precious resource in the world and are integral to re-pastoring and re-evangelising of Scotland. It is through people teaching the Bible to people, that the lost are found, the saints are matured, the Church is strengthened, and the Kingdom of God is expanded. Therefore, identifying, training, investing in and deploying Bible teachers should be our constant aim in our churches.
Cornhill Scotland, which has been training Bible teachers in Scotland alongside local churches for the last 20 years, is excited to be opening a new training hub in Inverness.
This we hope will open access to Bible training to more churches and more people and by God’s grace see more labourers sent out into the harvest.
The Cornhill Training Course is uniquely helpful for all Christians who want to hear, understand and teach the Bible to others. It is also essential training for anyone wanting to explore full time ministry, as whatever that ministry looks like, teaching the Bible will be its core.
Who is the course for?
We have had 17-year-olds do the Cornhill Training Course, we have had 72-year-olds do the Cornhill Training Course, and everyone in between. It is open to anyone who would benefit from digging deep into the Bible.
When does the course happen?
The course is usually structured over two years, part time. First year happens on Monday and Tuesday, second year happens on Wednesday and Thursday. Students always serve in conjunction with a local church, this can either be in a formal way as a staff member, or in an informal way as a church member.
How is the course structured?
The course takes place over three terms, 30 teaching weeks a year. In the first year the students study the Gospels, the Pentateuch, and then the Epistles. In the second-year students study Old Testament Narrative, the Prophets, Wisdom and Poetry, and then finish with Apocalyptic.
The course is also practical in the sense that classroom time is a mixture of teaching from the front but also lots of interaction and group work. The course also involves Teaching Practice groups where students prepare and give talk in small groups. It is not a course designed to simply give you head knowledge, but first and foremost a course designed to give you tools to help you read, understand and teach the Bible to others.
How is the course delivered?
With advancements in technology there is the ability to broadcast lectures and produce seamless learning environments. The aim would be through technology to offer the Inverness hub a great experience of watching the Cornhill lectures beamed live from Glasgow, to be able to see all the Glasgow students, to be seen by all the Glasgow students, and to be able to ask questions in a way that is as good as it can be without being in the room.
We feel it is vital, given the interactive nature of the lectures, that the course is done in groups in a central hub, rather than by individuals in isolation.
How much does the course cost?
To help get the Inverness of the ground we are offering the course at a 33% discount, meaning that it is £1000 per term, rather than the regular £1500 per term. However, we have always had a policy that if finance is a barrier, then we will do everything possible to help.
